Our AAP Southern Region 2024 conference is titled “Inviting the Experiential.” This is a call to experiential practitioners among us to share their unique approaches and skills. The Southern Region Committee invites members and non-members to offer a 3-hour workshop that challenges our growing edges within the context of nurturing our therapeutic practices and the AAP community.
Rooted in Rogerian empathy, experiential psychotherapy invites clients to explore and re-enact their emotions in depth, both consciously and unconsciously. This approach is rooted in the belief that fully experiencing feelings—whether they be joy, anger, grief, or fear—can lead to profound personal insight and transformation. This can be conducted in the context of various forms of therapeutic action such as role-play, guided imagery, psychodrama, etc. Experiential psychotherapy’s distinct emphasis on action allows clients to embody and access psychological elements they may not otherwise access. Acting in new ways then allows clients to think and feel in new ways.
Proposals are due by November 23, 2024.
